United States: Ex-president Trump referred to his White House predecessor, President Obama, as a ‘nice gentleman’ before delivering his speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
More about the news
The CNN anchor Kristen Holmes requested Trump to prepare a ‘prebuttal’ of Obama’s address to Democrats, which the former was scheduled to deliver on Tuesday before Trump took the stage at another rally in Michigan.
Rather than pounding away at his customary assaults on Obama, Trump said he liked and respected the 44th president, but he despised Obama’s trade policies.
He said, “I like him. I think he’s a nice gentleman, but he was very, very weak on trade,” and, “If you take a look at what happened to our country, trade-wise, it was a disaster, as the Hill reported.
He added, “Take a look at Japan. Take a look at China,” and, “Take a look at what happened with some of these countries, what they did.”

Furthermore, the GOP nominee added, “But I happen to like him. I respect him, and I respect his wife.”
A stark contrast to Trump’s usual criticism
The former president’s comments seemed to be a major difference from the insults he had always had for Obama.
Trump was one of the most vocal proponents of the ‘birther’ movement – an entirely falsified movement that claimed that Obama was not born in the US.
His comments also came before an address by the former First Lady Michelle Obama in Chicago. She opened up a full frontal attack on the GOP presidential hopeful throughout the speech and the loudest standing ovation was what she said about Trump’s recent “Black jobs” crack, as the Hill reported.
The former first lady added as the crowd burst into applause, “By the way — who’s going to tell him that the job he’s currently seeking might just be one of those ‘Black jobs?'”
Moreover, former president Obama then took to the stage and criticized him, who “hasn’t stopped whining about his problems” and is “afraid of losing to Kamala,” noting he spreads conspiracy theories and has a “weird obsession with crowd sizes.”
He added, “The other day, I heard someone compare Trump to the neighbor who keeps running his leaf blower outside your window every minute of every day,” and “Now, from a neighbor, that’s exhausting. From a president, that’s just dangerous.”
The Obamas endorsed Vice President Harris
The Obamas endorsed Vice President Harris at last month’s close following Biden’s disclosure that he would not be in the contest.
Currently, Trump is runny three points behind Harris with the latest figures showing the latter at 49.4 percent to 46.4 percent – in The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s national polling index.
